5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD LOVE SAMANTHA BROWN (+SAM’S RESPONSE!)

Samantha Brown

Samantha Brown[Samantha Brown at a travel convention in Columbus, Ohio: January 23, 2011]

You’re either a Samantha Brown lover or a hater. I’m a lover.

As she bounced onto the stage in her hot pink dress, I felt like Sam and I were just old buddies meeting up for coffee. I suppose that’s what happens after you watch someone on TV for 11 seasons. In person, she’s exactly who she is on her shows: super cute, really nice and always grateful. She sounds the same, looks the same and talks the same. Which is exactly why her show is so successful.

For any haters out there, here are 5 reasons why YOU should love Samantha Brown:

5. She’s a triple threat. Before she landed the hosting gig for Great Vacation Homes on the Travel Channel, she had never really traveled. She was a struggling NYC singer/dancer/actress who waited tables for years. Her amazing improv skills are what qualified her to host the show.

4. She has fresh eyes. Because she hadn’t traveled extensively, the premise of her shows has always been that she’s taking you along with her to see the world for the first time. If she can do it, anyone can do it! Some call her the cheerleader of the travel industry, but her perkiness makes much more sense now right?

3. She loves the people. Ask her any question about travel and it will always come back to the people. It’s not about the place, it’s the people who live there. She speaks the truth! And her Great Weekends show? It aimed to highlight the people and culture throughout America, not to give you a 48 hour itinerary.

2. She speaks in sound bites. Some may balk at a 20-second wrap-up at the end of her show (how can you possibly summarize an entire county in one sentence?!). It takes talent to gather your thoughts into one encompassing statement. Her words may be few, but they are deep.

1. She knows she has the best job in the world. And she really, truly appreciates it.

PS I forgot to mention that she’s funny. Her response to this post:

Love her. If i won the lottery tomorrow she’s one of the people at the top of my list of celebs i’d trick into having lunch with me by coming up with a bogus charity or something LOL. <<100% true. if i won the lottery i'd find my favorite celebs' soft spots, make up a charity, and invite them to have lunch with me while we discuss aforementioned charity. but if i'm gunna get serious for a moment…

I'm looking for a highschool/college yearbook photo of her. I'm trying to test a theory that noone looks amazing all their life, people who were nerds in thier teens will be sexy in thier 30's or 40's or something. stephen colbert looks like he's always been handsome but if you saw his yearbook picture you'd think that that flower would never blossom LOL!. So! if anyone can find a picture of her as a teen/young adult, i'd be VERY interested in seeing that. She is #1 in my book of sexy women over 40 (she's barely over 40 btw, not trying to make her sound old), and probably always will until March 31, 2069

I absolutely inlove with Samantha. I just have a hge crash on her.

  • Sad you missed her! Which showing did you attend–the 12 or 2:30? Maybe you’ll meet her at another, more appropriate time!

    • travelpology

I went to the 12:00 talk. They had to cut the line off so she could do the 2:30 talk. I couldn’t stay because I had to watch the Bears v. Packers game! I hope you got a picture with her! :)

      • Yes I did, thankfully! I’m sad to hear they cut the line off, when I went through & walked around it seemed as though the line had died down & everyone would have had the chance to meet her! You will get to meet her someday, I’m sure! I didn’t like how those of us respecting her talk ended up being last in the long line to see her due to the chaos & massive amounts of people… Oh Well!:)

Oh, lucky you! I should have stuck around. And I COMPLETELY agree with you! That’s exactly why I was at the end of the line. They were stupid for announcing where she would be signing autographs BEFORE her speech ended. Poor planning!

  • I was at the Expo center, as well, & was not surprised with how wonderful of a person she actually is. I always feel strange being super excited over meeting someone such as Samantha (a “celebrity”), because I know she’s just like one of us.. which makes you want to ask her for your # so you can meet up for lunch sometime, right? How many “celebrities” would you actually feel Comfortable asking to go to lunch? For me, not many. Which, as you said, is what makes her so unique & has been on of the main reasons her show is so successful because she is Actually Genuine! Like you, I’ve watched her for 11 seasons, & I think her energy is partly responsible for my drive to travel as I do. Not huge travel trips, but rather, when I’m out & about, I take it all in– all the experiences I come about & really learning about life within that. She’s taught us a lot, that is for certain!
Great post! :) Glad to see she’s touched your travel life, as well!

Yay! She was so wonderful. I wasn’t able to get a picture with her at the end which made me sad. They cut off the line like 3 people ahead of me! I’ve been to a few places she’s recommended like Chez Janou in Paris, but I liked that she reminded us to take everything in (like you mentioned) and not always follow the guidebook’s and travel host’s recommendations. Thanks for the comment!
