PARIS, FRANCE – On the Place Vendome in Paris lives the Ritz Carlton. And in the Ritz Carlton lives a teeny watering hole by the name of Bar Hemingway. It was ranked by Forbes magazine as the best bar in the word. You’re not really allowed in there, but you should go anyway. Here’s what you do. Walk in the front door. Briskly. Veer right and walk down the long hallway until there’s a bar on either side of you. Bar Hemingway is on the left.
Now, what to order? The Serendipity (a mint, apple juice, champagne mix) is the most-ordered drink in the bar. It will also set you back about 30 euros (not including tip). But that’s as cheap as drinks get here. Our party of four — one drink each — racked up a bill of 118 euros. We have the receipt to prove it.
Just walking in the doors of the Ritz is amazing. Ernest Hemingway drank here. Coco Chanel lived (and died) here. Audrey Hepburn starred in a movie here. Think of it like this: It’s not $40 for a drink, it’s $40 for a damn good travel story.
